  • Klondike Derby 2012
    1/20-22/12
Troop 121 participated in the Johnny Appleseed Trail District Klondike Derby again this year.  It was held in a new location of the Richland Rural Life Center.  We were one of only two troops that camped out in tents on Friday night while troops stayed in the buildings.  The boys did a wonderful job on Saturday in showing leadership, scouting skills, and teamwork as they worked through ten different stations and competing against nineteen other patrols from area troops. Our troop received:
    • 4th place overall winner
    • 2nd place in Knots
    • 2nd place in Tomahawk Throwing
    • 3rd place in Lashings
    • 3rd place in Map and Compass

The boys did a great job and can't wait to use more of these skills as we prepare for Philmont.

  • Christmas Party/Court of Honor
    12/6/11
Our boys and their families had a fun and filling time at our annual Christmas Party at the Richland County Fish and Game.  Aside from the wonderful pasta dishes, we had some great sugary desserts as well.  We held a small Court of Honor as well to award those scouts that had earned merit badges and had proceeded up the rank chain.  Well done boys and Merry Christmas!

  • Cooking Campout
    11/11-13/11
The boys had a great time at our annual Troop 121 cooking campout held at the church camp on Bunker Hill.  On Friday night, the crew decideda night hike was in order to celebrate 11/11/11 at 11:11:11pm on B.C. Mountain.  There were many howls at the moon that night. On Saturday, there were many delicious dishes creatively designed to tantalize the palettes of our three judges, Mrs. Free, Mrs. Dillinger, and Mrs. Reed.  The boys made the decisions difficult for the judges to judge first, second and third places.  For dinner, our master of the grill, Mr. Phil Dollish wowed us with a grand meal.  The boys are already planning their meals for next year.  Will you be joining us?

  • This just in - Troop 121 in the St. Peter's Family Magazine
    10/25/11
The boys, leaders and parents of Troop 121 are the center of an article inside of St. Peter's "Family" Magazine that is published monthly by St. Peter's Parish.  It records that the boys celebrated the founding of the Boys Scouts of America at Mass on February 6th. Our Scoutmaster, Chris Baldasare, is quoted in the article regarding the long and rich history of character building that Scouting instills in our boys.  Our new troop trailer is also mentioned in words and in pictures in the article. The article is attached below (in PDF).

  • Annual Rifle/Shotgun campout went off with a bang!
    10/14-16/11
The boys of Troop 121 held their annual Rifle/Shotgun campout at Richland County Fish and Game on Poth Road again this past weekend. The boys had already completed two training sessions of rifle and shotgun use and safety.  The third training session was finished on Friday night.  The boys practiced rifle shooting at targets in the morning. They had a friendly competition of accuracy and precision with all of their shots.  The results are:

    6th Place - Alec
        5th Place - Jake R.
        4th Place - Evan
        3rd Place - Taylor
        2nd Place - Jack
        1st Place - Kenny

Mr. Besecker had some special targets for the boys to take a shot at at the end of the competition. The boys even let the adults take a few shots as well.

After lunch, the boys practiced their skills at clay bird shooting with 12 gauge and 20 gauge shotguns.  Many clay birds were shattered across the ground from the accurate shots.

The Cub Scouts of Pack 121 joined the troop in the evening for Mass and dinner.  Pack 121 performed an honorable flag retirement ceremony that laid several worn and tattered American flags to rest. Father Tom stopped out to deliver Mass and take part in the festivities.  All in all, it was a great weekend for target practice, clay bird shooting, roaring fire and great cowboy stew.

Kenny honored his father, mother, grandparents, and mentors Chris Baldasare Sr., Jim Cox, Phil Dollish, and Kevin Wappner for all of the help they have given him over the years. Everyone was reminded of different accomplishments, campouts, events, service projects and activities of his Scouting career through a photoshow created by his father, Jim Ousley. We look forward to all that Kenny will accomplish in his bright future. Congratulations Kenny!
