Christopher Amalfitano was presented his Eagle Medallion and Eagle Badge in front of many family members, friends, colleagues, mentors and troop leaders at the site of his Eagle Scout Project, Julia Underhill Park in Mansfield, Ohio. Aside from different stories of his Scouting life, Chris also honored his mother, father, and grandfather for their unfailing encouragement and help. Chris received many proclamations for his Eagle Project and for his Eagle Badge. Congratulations Chris! 7/18-23/10 Eighteen boys from Troop 121 and seven boys from Troop 502 of Ashland attended summer camp at Black Swamp Council's Camp Berry during a flurry of wild winds, crazy downpours, and humid days. But the boys being Scouts were used to surviving in such conditions and persevered greatly. Over 109 merit badges were earned during the week at summer camp in Troop 121 alone. Boys mentioned that some of the favorite activities included shooting off model rockets for Space Exploration, swimming, seeing skunks in the camp ground, and penny hockey every night. The Baldasare boys, "The Godfathers," won the euchre title this year, beating out the team that they lost to last year. Also, Troop 121 was the only troop to volunteer to post the colors at camp and they got to do it with a 30' x 50' American flag from the Cleveland Indians Progressive Field. The boys and the Scouters should be proud of the accomplishments made at camp. Who's ready for next year? 7/10-11/10 The boys of Troop 121 did a wonderful job over the weekend helping at the annual St. Peter's Festival held at the Knights of Columbus Center. The boys helped with various jobs as well as trash detail around the festival. With their help, the teardown of the festival went quickly and smoothly. When a job needs done, our boys can handle it all. Well done Scouts! 7/3/10 Many boys helped set up booths for the St. Peter's Festival on the Saturday of Independence Day weekend. Toiling in the hot sun in a cloudless sky and 90 degree weather, the boys did an excellent job of assembling the booths in record time. St. Peter's Catholic Church is the troop's sponsoring organization and is always glad to have the help of the troop for one of it's largest community events. The festival will Commence on Friday, July 9th and go until Sunday, July 11th. 6/20/10 Troop 121 camped out in Crestline this past weekend. Even with high temperatures and the threat of severe storms, the boys got by with fun times, good service and hardly any precipitation. The boys enjoyed swimming and spending time with three Webelos scouts after moving rocks, wood, palettes, and concrete block on Friday night and Saturday morning. 6/13/10 Our troop is one of the proud groups to have be involved with the Miss Ohio Scholarship Parade. Aside from marching near the front of parade with the American flag and our troop flag held high, our boys also rode on the Cuttin' Close float which won first prize. The float was a scene displaying many aspects of Scouting from fishing to canoeing, archery to rifle shooting to rock climbing. Also, Noah, Johnny, Kenny, Mr. Anschutz and two scouts from Troop 113 helped escort the Miss Ohio Contestants from their vehicles up to the two stages set up by the square. With the theme of this year's parade being Scouting for a Crown, the boys showed their true colors in celebrating the one hundredth anniversary of Boys Scouts in America. 6/5/10 Several scouts were the color guard for the local BALOO Training that occurred on Saturday. The scouts demonstrated the proper way to raise the American Flag. Unfortunately, due to the age of the rope, the flag was unable to be hoisted so the creative scouts displayed the flag for the group and then showed how to fold the flag. 6/1/10 Troop 121 helped several of our Star scouts with a community service project. They helped with lawn mowing, landscaping, weed removal, hedge trimming and other lawn maintenance for a World War II veteran from the local area. The Star scouts will be continuing to help maintain the lawn for the veteran throughout the summer. 5/29/10 Several members of Troop 121 took part a time honored yearly event of placing over 6,000 American flags on the graves of those who have served in the Armed Services on Saturday. Several other Boy Scout troops participated in this memorial. 5/25/10 St. Peter’s Boy Scout Troop 121 met Miss Ohio 2009 last Tuesday in preparation for the Miss Ohio Contest in June. The Miss Ohio theme this year is "Scouting for a Crown" to honor Boy Scouts of America. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Scouting and sixty years of consecutive chartering for St. Peter’s Boy Scout Troop 121. 5/14/10 The troop had an adventurous and commemorative weekend down at Mohican State Forest campground this past weekend. Aside from having family camp out with the Scouts, the group went canoeing down the Mohican River. It was a wet fun time that some people discovered more plant life on the sides of the river than the main current down the middle of the river. Saturday concluded with a cross over ceremony in which three boys joined the troop: Jack, Drew, and Isiah J. We are very glad to have them part of our troop. 5/7/10 Recently, St. Peter's First Class Scouts: Chris, Zach, Evan, Isaiah C-P, Shaun, and Reid completed their Star service project, designing and building an accessible podium for their teacher who is wheelchair bound. These Scouts not only designed and built the podium, but secured donations from both corporate and individual donors. Their teacher was overwhelmed by the gift and looks forward to using it everyday. She appreciated the attention to detail and the grenerosity of the Scouts.
5/1/10 Troop 121 convened once again on Saturday, May 1, 2010 to award one of Scouting's highest honors to a deserving young man. Joseph Besecker was presented his Eagle Medallion and Eagle Badge in front of many family members and friends at the site of his Eagle Scout Project, the 1812 Blockhouse located in Mansfield Ohio's South Park. Although he faced different challenges along his road to Eagle, Joseph persevered to accomplish a long standing goal. Joe added a special part of the ceremony when he awarded Drew his Scout badge. Joe said that he "wanted to start another Scout where he had left off." Congratulations Joe! 4/17/10 Troop 121 convened on Saturday, April 17, 2010 to award one of Scouting's highest honors to a deserving young man. Christopher Cole was presented his Eagle Medallion and Eagle Badge in front of many family members, friends, colleagues, mentors and troop leaders. He noted that although the road was tough at times that it was worth it. He also recognized his mother, father, stepfather and stepmother for their continuous support. Chris also recognized three troop leaders as his mentors: Tom Dorsy, George Vandermeir, and Jim Cox. Congratulations Chris!
